De Kaai Community Health Center has moved to a new building with the major design focus upon functionality, practicality, spacious with a logical division and an environmentally friendly.
The new center consists of: 8 doctor consultation rooms, 4 physiotherapy rooms, one large exercise room, two nurse consultation rooms, a room fully equipped for the caring, washing and dressing of wounds, a common care room, a diabetes care consultation room, a spacious waiting room, meeting and office spaces and finally, the necessary storage and washroom facilities.
The new center had to be more accessible patients arriving by car, bicycle or public transport and had to be accessible for people with disabilities and / or wheelchair users. In combination with wide corridors and a new central lift that connects the floors the building is highly accessible for all vistors.
The upper roof volume is designated as a technical floor where the boiler room and technical room are located and made easily accessible for maintenance.
The principle method of heating the building is through the use of condensation boilers with a cascade system. Floor heating in the entrance and waiting room and radiators with thermostatic fittings have been installed in the other rooms to increase comfort levels whenever necessary.
A ventilation system type D with a thermal wheel for heat recovery is utilized in the building. The thermal wheels help recuperate the energy from the stale/exhaust air and transferred it to the incoming air, heating it up during the winter months The amount of energy transferred, can be controlled to raise or lower the temperature of the air that is fed back into the building. Via these air groups, top cooling in the summer periods can be used to create an acceptable indoor climate for staff and patients.
To further raise the level of sustainability, rainwater is harvested for the use of toilet flushing and is buffered via the green roofs with infiltration in the ground.
To further reduce electrical consumption, PV panels are installed on the roof top and all light fixtures utilize LED lighting.
Furthermore, all technical systems such as electricity, data network and fire detection are integrated in the spaces meeting current standards.
