Belgian winners at Mipim Awards again

The excellent performance of Belgian projects at the prestigious Mipim Awards has been demonstrated once again his year. Despite the truncated nature of the 2021 edition of the world’s most important real estate show, organizers Reed Midem were able to put on a full scale awards programme, which resulted in two first prizes for Belgian projects.

The first winner of a Mipim Award is MontLégia General Hospital in Liège, which can be extremely proud to have been named ‘Best Healthcare Development’ among original candidates from across the globe.Developed by the CHC healthcare group, this project was designed by Assar Architects and Artau Architectures. Also involved were Greisch and Tractebel Engineering, for Structural and Building services respectively. The hospital began its activities in 2020 and replaces three former clinics in Liège: Saint-Joseph, Espérance and Saint-Vincent.

The second Belgian winner received the distinction of the Special Jury Award, thus being considered by the team of real estate experts which makes up the jury, to be worthy of recognition. The project in question is the Gare Maritime on the Tour & Taxis site, a total renovation and reorientation of a one hundred year old customs clearance building. This project is by the Extensa Group with architecture from Neutelings Riedijk Architecten (Rotterdam,) and Bureau Bouwtechniek (Brussels). A number of other specialist firms were also involved in rehabilitating this piece of Brussels’ history: Ney & Partners (Brussels), Boydens engineering (Brussels), Venac (Vibrations Engineering & Acoustics Consulting – Brussels), along with FPC of Antwerp and General contractor MBG (also of Antwerp). This will not be the last connection that the Gare Maritime has with the professional real estate industry. Later this month it is to host Belgium’s real estate show Realty.
