Martin’s Bruges Hotel is part of the Martin’s Hotel group that will soon have 14 hotels in 12 cities including the Martin’s Spa, one of the finest wellness centers in Europe. The key to the brand image of Martin’s Hotel is respect for local heritage. Each hotel branch, villa and restaurant of the group is built on a site with historical character and a story to tell. Thanks to the enormous creativity of Huguette Martin, each of the individual hotels guarantees a unique atmosphere of serenity, friendliness, effectiveness with the comforts of modern life remaining central for guests.

 

Located a stone’s throw from the central Market Square in the historic city center of Bruges, it is the ideal starting point to discover the city. Given the high demand for hotel rooms, Martin’s Bruges proceeded to redesign the meeting rooms, offices and other spaces into 22 new hotel rooms. The multidisciplinary architect office, Jonckheere ir-architecten was responsible for the design and given the historical complexity of the project, Boydens Engineering was commissioned for the energy studies, MEP design and follow-up of the project.

 

The new hotel is equipped with a type D ventilation system with heat recuperation so that all hotel rooms will benefit from heated fresh air during cooler periods. The hotel rooms are heated via radiators with thermostatic valves and an integrated fan coil unit for cooling, allowing guests to set their preferred room temperature. The existing gas heating system for hot water production was retained, renovated and expanded to meet the new capacity needs of domestic hot water.

 

New bathroom facilities were installed upgrading and meeting the necessary comfort levels of guests.  Rain water is harvested for the use of toilet flushing, reducing the dependency on costly city water.

 

The complete electrical installation was renewed wherever renovations took place. Extensive data & telephone networks and multimedia facilities were integrated into the hotel. The building is further equipped with general fire detection, emergency lighting, and primary fire intervention tools (hand extinguishers – reels) that meet current fire safety regulations.

 

Pleasant interior lighting provided by contemporary light fixtures compliment and reflect not only the architectural interior design, but meet norms and standards.  This ensures that the atmosphere created by the ambient lighting is comfortable yet sufficient to light the room according to comfort needs.
