Project description:

On behalf of Van Hoorebeke Timber, a wood processing company in the port of Ghent, a new reception building was constructed in CLT (Cross laminated Timber).

 

Concrete and wood are the basic materials used in the design of this building. This has already been taken into account for the integration of the techniques from the design phase. The concrete floors were activated by integrating underfloor heating / cooling. Because of the limited thermal inertia of the building, additional heating and cooling was chosen by means of fast regulating end elements: fan coil units. These were incorporated in the walls or fitted into the suspended ceiling. A heat pump is used to produce heating and cooling. The hydraulic diagram was composed in such a way that the heat exchange initially takes place between the various offices and meeting rooms. Only when additional cooling capacity is needed, it is produced from the heat pumps. In this way a sustainable and energy-efficient whole is obtained.

 

Within the port of Ghent, this building stands out aesthetically. In addition to the architectural aspect, it is also a leading building on a technical and sustainable level.
