Project description:

On the former Belgian National Railway Station (NMBS) site in Kortrijk, the city approved the development of a completely new district. Since the City of Kortrijk demographically is a relatively young city, the city wanted to provide facilities to enhance the lives of its young inhabitants.  For this reason a function hall was constructed for the purpose of hosting a party, reception, or other social/cultural events.  The main hall can be divided into two spaces.  On the first floor a large foyer area equipped with facilities to host a party.

The project is connected to a thermal heat network that is built into the site. This creates an efficient and sustainable method of heating the building. Several air handling units help ventilate the hall and cool passively to maintain a comfortable indoor temperature.  These air handling units are equipped with a plate heat exchanger so that heat generated can be recovered. Rain water is harvested for the toilets to further reduce dependency on the city’s water supply.
